H&M on Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion means the ability to provide fashion over the long term by staying within the planetary boundaries while having a positive impact on the society at the same time. Sustainable fashion concerns more than addressing fashion textiles or products. It comprises addressing the whole system of fashion. This means dealing with interdependent social, cultural, ecological and financial systems.

There are many ways for fashion companies to offer a more sustainable fashion, and for consumers to consume more sustainably. Some fashion companies provide fashion as second hand or have initiated rental systems for leasing clothes and accessories. Other companies (e.g. H&M) have set up collection and recycling systems that support increased textile recycling. To manufacture clothes with certified textiles (according to environmental labels and Fair Trade) is another strategy to promote more conscious consumption patterns.

SwedCham is pleased to welcome Ms Marian Dang​, Sustainability Manager for H&M Southeast Asia​, who will talk about H&M's mission of leading the change towards circular fashion while being a fair and equal company. Ms Dang will explain what role circularity plays in achieving sustainable fashion, the importance of innovation and collaboration and will touch upon what we all can do together to drive towards a more sustainable fashion industry.

H&M has set several ambitious goals for a sustainable fashion future:

• By 2020, H&M Group aims to source 100% sustainable cotton
• By 2030, H&M Group aims for 100% recycled or other sustainably sourced materials
• By 2040, H&M Group aims to have a climate positive value chain.
