SwedCham's next Market Outlook will focus on the Philippines - a country which has made an impressive rebound from the pandemic and now is considered one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.

The Philippines boasts the fastest GDP growth in SEA, buoyed by a young, growing and English-proficient population and a large middle class. Two consecutive administrations have made infrastructure their main policy, providing exciting opportunities for Swedish companies in the construction and engineering sectors. Another field with rising prospects is sustainable mining. The Philippines is a world-leading exporter of nickel, and recently lifted a ban on open pit mining. There is a clear drive from the administration to develop a refining industry to increase the profit of its mineral trade. Companies in this sector can expect to see an increase in demand for their expertise, tools and equipment. There is also a push to electrify the country, not least through renewable energy, with the Philippines being one of the regional leaders in diversifying its energy portfolio.

To help us get a better understanding of the opportunities arising in this important Southeast Asian market, we have invited Ms Kristina Elinder Liljas, Sweden's Trade Commissioner to the Philippines, to share her insights.
