Dear Subscriber,

Did you hear that the northern lights, aurora borealis, made a rare appearance over Stockholm and other southern parts of Sweden this month? It is very rare to see these mythical lights so far south, and must have been a magical experience for onlookers. The norrsken phenomenon is born as the sun ejects charged particles into its upper atmosphere, creating what is called a solar wind. When this wind hits the Earth's upper atmosphere, northern lights are born.

As we are slowly opening up our society, SwedCham is delighted to host five in-person events over the coming weeks. As max capacity is still limited, all of these events are filling up fast. If the event you would like to attend is fully booked, please send us an email on info@swedcham.sg and we will put you on the waiting list. We will contact you in case of any cancellations.

Don't forget to join our pledge to double up on paternity leave in Singapore - open until International Women's Day 8 March 2022. For more information, visit 100perspectives.com.

Your dedicated SwedCham team,

Lisa & Anna

AGM with Nick Nash as keynote
image

SwedCham's Annual General Meeting 2022 will be held on Thursday 10 March at Grand Hyatt Singapore. This year we are honoured to have Mr Nick Nash as our keynote speaker.

Nick is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of Asia Partners, a private equity firm focused on the next generation of high-growth technology companies in Southeast Asia. Prior to this, from 2014 to 2018, Nick was the Group President and Board Member of Sea Ltd, Greater Southeast Asia's leading internet company with a ~$80 billion market cap. Nick was leading Sea's landmark initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange which raised approximately $1 billion of primary capital and which was the largest ever U.S. IPO of a company from Southeast Asia.

Nick will give us his perspectives on South East Asia's role in the world over the coming years, how tech ecosystems evolve globally and what a possible roadmap for tech IPOs in SEA could look like.

The AGM is free of charge. A drink and a light dinner will be served during the event. Register for this event here.

Employee expectations are changing!
image
On Tuesday 8 March, we will have Cecilia Sandberg, Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer at Atlas Copco Group, as our guest for an in-person roundtable at Shangri-La. The focus will be on how employee expectations are shifting in the wake of the pandemic, and what businesses should do to respond and adjust to the phenomenon that a record number of professionals are leaving their jobs all around the world. A lack of work-life balance and declining job satisfaction are among the greatest factors contributing to mass employee departures which implies that employers need to start building a new, more dynamic relationship based on trust and empathy with their employees in order to attract and retain talent.

Join the #DoubleUp pledge
image
THIS IS AN OPEN CALL TO LOCAL AND FOREIGN COMPANIES IN SINGAPORE TO JOIN THE PLEDGE TO DOUBLE UP ON PATERNITY LEAVE BY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (IWD) ON 8 MARCH 2022.

Since the launch of the pledge by nine Swedish MNCs in December 2021, we now have 16 companies onboard. Help us double that to 30 by IWD.

From the pledge:

"Businesses have the choice to intentionally build a corporate culture that does not simply tolerate, but encourages fathers to be there for their baby. ... By promoting paternity leave, we can create a ripple effect towards equality. A truly equal workplace will ultimately level the playing field for both men and women, at home and at work."

JOIN THE #DOUBLEUP PLEDGE HERE

The following companies have joined the pledge so far (new pledgers since last month's newsletter are SEBGAC, Hexagon, Mercuri Urval and Collectius):
