Dear Subscriber,

SwedCham extends its warmest wishes for a great start to 2024 to all its esteemed members and friends.

As we embark on this new year, it's easy to acknowledge the prevalence of concerning news that fill our traditional and digital media channels. From the tumultuous global economy to frightening geopolitical developments and serious concerns about the state of our planet, the landscape appears challenging. These issues are indeed significant and extremely worrying. However, sometimes it is good to try to look a bit beyond the immediate news sources that bombard us on a daily basis, to get a bigger perspective on what's going on in the world. Here are a few sources that hopefully will inspire you as you kick off the new year:
  • At the end of every year, LinkedIn asks its community of Top Voices and experts to share the Big Ideas they believe will define the year ahead. If you are curious what came up for 2024, have a look at
  • Positive News, a media organisation dedicated to quality, independent reporting about what's going right in the world, has collected the top 25 good news stories of 2023. Read them
  • Do you remember Gapminder, the independent educational non-profit fighting global misconceptions which was founded by Swedish physician ? Check out Gapminder's website via  to understand why this team is convinced that a better world is possible if we care to work towards it
  • Feeling restless? Want to see more of the planet? Time Out has collected the 24 best things to do in the world in 2024 - find them
  • And finally - something completely different: Did you catch Oxford's Word of the Year for 2023? Finalists included, for example, "prompt", "situationship" and "swiftie". And the winner? Find it
As we venture into 2024, don't lose hope! Let's draw strength from collectively striving for a brighter, more resilient future, both when it comes to work and private life.

New mentorship program in the making
Our thriving Female Mentorship Program, launched by SwedCham's HR community in 2021, is gearing up for its next phase in Q1/Q2. Following a high volume of requests, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of our third edition, and we are actively seeking a new cohort of mentees to participate. Don't miss this opportunity for yourself or a colleague to be part of a program that can make a tangible impact on career growth and development.

Does your company have great female leaders who you would like to see move on to more senior positions? Support their career journey by nominating them for SwedCham's Female Mentorship Program.

SwedCham’s vision for the mentorship program:
  • Create a solid cross-industry network and a professional sounding board for female rising stars in SwedCham’s business community
  • Raise the bar for female leadership development in Singapore
  • Promote Swedish leadership values and strengthen ties between Swedish companies in Singapore.

Who can participate?
  • Mentees: The program is aimed at up-and-coming female leaders in middle management positions at SwedCham member companies. The mentees should already have a clear leadership position - either leading a business unit or a team of people.
  • Mentors: Senior female & male business leaders (C-suite level or equivalent), preferably with experience in developing female leaders.

Program set-up
The mentorship program will run over 6 months in groups of four: One mentor and three mentees. The group will meet face-to-face once a month, during working hours, for a 2-hour session. SwedCham will be in charge of setting up the groups. The cross-industry set-up provides a safe and neutral space where everyone can feel free to share and discuss openly.

The following SwedCham member companies have participated in the previous mentorship programs, either with mentees or mentors, or both: ABB, Anda Pacific, Alfa Laval, Atlas Copco, AstraZeneca, Axis Communications, Camfil, Dynapac, Electrolux, Hexagon, IKEA, Mentor Media, Scania, SKF, Tetra Pak and Volvo Group.

If your company is interested in participating, ask your HR team to contact  () to find out more about the mentee/mentor nomination process.

NB: For SwedCham's Corporate Members only.
