JOIN THE PLEDGE TO DOUBLE UP ON PATERNITY LEAVE IN SINGAPORE
Dear Subscriber,

As you are building your company's ESG strategy, and with the International Women's Day (IWD) just around the corner, here is a proposal which is not only smart for retaining employees and building a healthy company culture, but also, research shows, is good for business:

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SIXTEEN ADDITIONAL COMPANIES IN SINGAPORE TO JOIN SWEDCHAM’S #DOUBLE UP PLEDGE BY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ON 8 MARCH 2022.

The business community has an important role to play to make gender equality a reality. Parental leave for both mothers and fathers is one of the levers to build a more equal society. A truly equal workplace will ultimately level the playing field for both men and women, at home and at work.

As we launched our initiative #candid: 100 Perspectives on Gender Equality in Singapore in December last year, we also had the privilege to announce that nine Swedish MNCs had decided to join forces in a pledge to double up on paternity leave in Singapore from 2 weeks (government sponsored) to 4 weeks. This action was covered extensively in the press - please find links below.

We are now making a second, open call to the broader business community in Singapore to join the pledge. Since our launch in December, we have grown from 9 to 14 companies, and our goal is to double this to 30 by IWD. If you are a local or a foreign company in Singapore that believes in making a difference, especially when it comes to gender equality - join our pledge.

If your company would like to join, click on the button below to sign the pledge on our website.

Inspired by IKEA who took the first steps to offer twice the amount of Singapore’s two-week paternity leave in 2017, the following companies have joined the double up pledge to date:

SwedCham's #DoubleUp Pledge
With a commitment towards equality and inclusion, we are making a collective pledge to promote gender equality.

During 2022, we commit to extend the prevailing two weeks of paid paternity leave for all male employees in our companies in Singapore to four paid weeks.

As business leaders from many different industries, we have a myriad of visions of what our thriving businesses can look like, but we also have a vision of how we, collectively, can contribute to society.

This pledge is also about coming together through business alliances and collective action. That is why this pledge is not only an announcement of our shared vision. It is an invitation to the broader business community to come onboard, to join forces and share solutions that will pave the way.

We have a long way to go but every step counts.

We do not have all the solutions at hand but we can figure it out together.
Let’s come together to make our companies a forward-thinking frontier for business, not just in our operational ambitions but also with our drive to lead the way toward a more equitable society for all.
