Meet Dr. Fang Yi Tan, the youngest member of the #EOSsg expedition team in Antarctica in 2023. To understand the extreme landscape, she collected data on microorganisms in the air as part of her daily tasks during the trip. Samples taken during the expedition were brought back to SCELSE laboratories, where Fangyi and other researchers worked to learn about the frozen continent. “We have a number of collaborations with other universities and with non-governmental organisations. How this is unique is the huge amount of engagement we can get from the community.” #EOSsg scientist and Assistant Professor Kyle Morgan from NTU Asian School of the Environment spoke to The Straits Times on a new partnership between EOS and the S.E.A. We’re excited to start a new collaboration with Resorts World Sentosa’s (RWS) S.E.A. Aquarium for future projects for climate science and the conservation of marine biodiversity. On Tuesday, Assistant Professor Kyle Morgan from NTU Asian School of the Environment (left) dived underwater to sign a memorandum of understanding with research and conservation executive Abel Yeo from S.E.A. Aquarium. “I hope the collaboration between RWS and EOS will catalyse meaningful change towards a more climate resilient future,” said Assistant Professor Kyle Morgan. Did you know that not all #tsunamis 🌊 are caused by earthquakes in subduction zones? The tsunami following the 2018 Palu earthquake is an example. Studying interactions between earthquakes and tsunamis is a key part of #InVEST_EOS: https://lnkd.in/g5DpuSq3 #FactFriday

The melting of the Antarctic ice sheet is a growing concern particularly for coastal cities such as Singapore which have been facing rising sea levels. A new #EOSsg documentary follows our scientists as they embark on a research expedition to understand the impacts that a frozen land thousands of kilometres from Singapore could have on sea-level rise this century. 🎥 Watch the documentary here: https://lnkd.in/gPUQXU6A #EOSAntarctica #AntarcticaTheGiantAwakens NTU Asian School of the Environment SCELSE
