What a joy to see the European Ambassadors together with Minister S. Iswaran on stage at Shangri-La Hotel as we celebrated Europe Day this week. Every year on 9 May, the EU member states commemorate the signing of the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950. The declaration was an ambitious plan to secure long-term peace in post-war Europe and is considered the beginning of what is now the European Union. The theme of this year's Europe Day is building a Europe that is green, digital, and competitive, fair and skilled, as well as strong, resilient, and safe.
At this moment, we are challenged by both political and economic uncertainty in our region. Unity among the EU member states is the only way forward in these turbulent times. At SwedCham, we believe in strong cooperation and solidarity between the European countries. We also believe in the importance of remembering our history.

SMEs, start-ups, scale-ups - if you are tired of polite small talk at Chamber events and just want to get down to business, here is an event for you: On 17 May 12 international chambers in Singapore will get together for a meet & pitch event where the sole focus will be on talking business and circulating. Larger companies are of course welcome too, but do expect to get down to business straight away in your conversations. A friendly and informal "speed dating" event where you might find a new client, supplier, business partner, mentor - or just a new friend.

| Young Professionals visited Spotify |

SwedCham's Young Professionals network recently hosted a company visit at Spotify. YP members learned about Spotify's mission and values in a brand introduction from their HR team and were treated to an exclusive after hours tour of their offices. The evening also featured a fun quiz where members had a chance to prove their music knowledge.

THE EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL IN SINGAPORE ON 16-31 MAY
The Embassy of Sweden in Singapore has the honour of opening the 32nd European Film Festival in Singapore with the screening of the Swedish movie Hilma, directed by Lasse Hallström on 17 May at 8 pm at The Projector (Golden Mile Tower). The movie tells the story of the revolutionary Swedish artist and feminist pioneer Hilma af Klint. Well ahead of her time, in the early 1900s, she created evocative abstract paintings. The movie portrays the intense struggles she faced as a female artist trying to find a place for herself and gain recognition in a male-dominated field.

SAVE THE DATE: INDO-PACIFIC BUSINESS SUMMIT ON 5 DECEMBER
Team Sweden will host an Indo-Pacific Business Summit on 5 December this year. This Summit will be a direct continuation of the Sweden-Southeast Asia Business Summit (SSEABS) that has been held in 2016, 2018 and 2021. As such, it will be a high-level meeting with the purpose to secure long-term collaboration between Sweden and Singapore in the direction of driving innovation that enables the green transition. The summit will hav a regional outlook and participants include governmental representatives, business leaders, and the academia. A formal invitation will be sent out later in May.
The overarching theme for Indo-Pacific Business Summit 2023 will be: Creating a Singapore-Sweden Innovation Platform for Green Transition in the Indo-Pacific Region. Supporting themes include: - Creating a competitive advantage to capture green growth opportunities
- Attracting and developing talent in an era of green transition
- Building a resilient society.
