Professor at Karolinska Institutet and the World Health Organisation

Ms Anna Ekéus Thorson is a Professor in global infectious disease epidemiology, specifically HIV, affiliated to the Department of Global Public Health, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. She has over 20 years of experience of leading research focused on HIV, SRHR, Ebola and TB in the areas of epidemiology, gender, health systems, methods development and implementation research, in LMIC settings and in vulnerable or under-served populations. She is also a medical doctor with a clinical specialization in infectious disease medicine from the Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden.

Currently Professor Thorson works with the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Research department at WHO. Her current work includes management of the HRP Alliance for research capacity strengthening in SRHR and research in SRHR, including Ebola, Zika and COVID-19.
